Cookie Policy

Last updated: May 6, 2026

Each section includes a plain English explanation.

This Cookie Policy explains how Assembo, operated by Ruud Digital Solutions (org. nr. 932375311), uses cookies and similar technologies when you visit our website. It explains what these technologies are, why we use them, and your rights to control our use of them.

This page explains all the cookies we use. We've tried to be as transparent as possible. If you clicked 'Deny' on the cookie banner, we only use the essential ones that keep the site working.

1. What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They help websites remember things about your visit, like your preferences or login status. They're not programs and can't do anything malicious on their own.

What it means

Cookies are tiny text files that help websites remember you. They can't hack your computer or steal your identity. They're basically Post-it notes for your browser.

2. How we use cookies

  • Essential cookies: Required for the site to function. These keep you logged in, remember your theme preferences, and maintain security.
  • Analytics cookies: Help us understand how people use Assembo. We use PostHog for this. These are only set if you accept them.
  • Preference cookies: Remember your choices like dark mode and selected theme.

What it means

We use cookies to keep you logged in, remember that you like dark mode, and see which features people actually use. The tracking stuff only happens if you say yes to the cookie banner.

3. Essential cookies (always active)

  • sb-access-token / sb-refresh-token: Supabase authentication tokens that keep you logged in. Expire when you log out or after 1 hour of inactivity.
  • cookie-consent: Remembers your cookie preference so we don't ask you every time. Stored in localStorage, never expires until you clear it.
  • theme: Your light/dark mode preference. Stored in localStorage.

What it means

These are the cookies that make Assembo actually work. Without them, you'd have to log in every time you refresh the page. We can't turn these off without breaking everything.

4. Analytics cookies (optional)

  • PostHog cookies: Track anonymous usage data like pages visited, features used, and session duration. Only set if you accept analytics.
  • Session replay: If enabled, records your session (with inputs masked) to help us debug issues. You control this via the cookie banner.

What it means

These help us see what's working and what's confusing. We can watch anonymized recordings of sessions to fix bugs. If you clicked 'Deny' on the cookie banner, none of this happens. We respect that.

5. Third-party cookies

  • Stripe: May set cookies during the checkout process for fraud prevention and payment processing.
  • Google/GitHub OAuth: May set cookies during the authentication process when you sign in with these providers.

What it means

When you pay us or log in with Google/GitHub, those services might drop their own cookies. We can't control those, but they're pretty standard stuff for payments and login.

6. Managing cookies

  • Cookie banner: When you first visit, you can accept or decline non-essential cookies.
  • Browser settings: You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Note that blocking essential cookies will break the site.
  • Change your mind: Clear your browser's localStorage and cookies, then refresh. The cookie banner will appear again.

What it means

You're in control. Use our cookie banner, or go nuclear in your browser settings. If you change your mind later, just clear your cookies and we'll ask you again.

7. Do Not Track

We respect the Do Not Track (DNT) browser setting. If your browser sends a DNT signal and you haven't explicitly accepted analytics cookies, we won't track you.

What it means

If you've got Do Not Track enabled in your browser, we'll leave you alone. No sneaky workarounds.

8. Updates to this policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal reasons. We'll update the 'Last updated' date at the top when we make changes.

What it means

If we start using cookies differently, we'll update this page. Check the date at the top if you want to see if anything changed.

9. Questions?

If you have questions about our use of cookies, please contact us at marcruud@gmail.com.

What it means

Confused about cookies? Email us. We promise not to send you a box of actual cookies (unless you're in Norway and very persistent).
